How to find your nearest Tesco EV charging point

Electric car charging points are installed at more than 500 Tesco stores across the UK, thanks to a joint project between Pod Point and Volkswagen.

The result is the country’s largest retail electric car charging network. Around 10 percent of the devices in Tesco supermarket car parks are rapid chargers, too.

To start with, the 7kW fast chargers were free to use for Tesco customers. However, from 1 November 2022, this is no longer the case. The 7kW devices now cost 28p per kilowatt hour (kWh).

Tesco’s 22kW chargers cost 40p per kWh to use, while the 50kW units are the most expensive, at 50p per kWh. However, the latter offer the potential for a full charge while you do your weekly shop.

The locations of all Tesco electric car charging points can be found by visiting the Pod Point website.

To use a Tesco EV charging point, you will need to download the Pod Point smartphone app or use the Pod Point website.

You’ll find electric charging bays at Tesco Superstore and Tesco Extra sites throughout the UK, the majority of which are 7kW fast chargers.

Tesco plans to continue expanding its electric car charging network to more than 600 locations nationwide by spring 2023.

  1. It’s great but doesn’t seem worth the effort as we have used both Honiton and Seaton and found at both they cut out after ten minutes which is of no use to anyone. Please tell me policy.

  2. Jenny, I charged at a Tesco yesterday. The charge cuts off at 15 minutes unless you download the PodPoint app and confirm the charge. Then you can charge for longer – I managed a full charge.
I hope this information is useful.

  3. My Tesco Pod Point switches off after fifteen minutes unless you go onto the Pod Point phone app and tell them which outlet you are connected to. Each PodPoint socket has a unique name and you have to tell the app whether you are on socket A or B with that name. It’s easy and a welcome bonus to those of us not earning loyalty scheme Points buying their petrol.

  4. Thank you, everyone, for sharing your feedback – it’s much appreciated and should hopefully help others!

  5. Not sure I can see the point of adding 7kw of power for one hour, even if it is free,
That’s about 25 miles. You wouldn’t add a litre of petrol on the way out of Tescos would you

    • If your local Tesco’s is less then 12.5 miles from your house it means you can drive there once a week for free as apposed to paying for £3 in petrol or £6 for a bus ticket.

  6. The Tesco electric charging facilities are fantastic and so easy – I cannot understand why anyone can’t use them effectively to get a FREE charge and miles. All it takes is to download the app, plug in and away it goes while you do your shopping. I shop each week and it gives me enough charge to go to work 5 days and social motoring! There are very few genuinely free things in life – so thank you Tesco for your forward thinking in installing these pod points…you’re charging ahead in helping the planet (sorry for the pun)

  7. I think its a great idea and a wonderful frill for shopping at TESCO. Well done TESCO keep it up, it all helps in these times.

  8. Not all Tescos have charging points. Can we make a request? My local Tesco at Borehamwood has no charge points, I would have thought that a supermarket of that size would have charge points. Are they due to be installed.
